Several stormwater lots are being constructed on Dreux Avenue and Congress Street to aid in water collection as part of the Pontilly Neighborhood Stormwater Network. Fleming Construction and Twin Shores are grading the surfaces and planting native trees to help hold more than 36,000 gallons of water on each lot.
This “gray-green” feature will help protect the historic neighborhood in case of a major storm event. The entire project is scheduled to be finished in December 2020 and is more than 70 percent complete.
The $15M Pontilly Neighborhood Stormwater Network extends from Stephen Girard Avenue to Southern University at New Orleans. A pre-construction community meeting was held in February 2019 at Mary D. Coghill Elementary School. View the pre-construction public meeting presentation here.
