The first of six FEMA-funded construction projects that will improve infrastructure in the New Orleans East area between Read Boulevard, Interstate-510, Chef Menteur Highway and Interstate-10—known formally as the Read Boulevard East neighborhood—is now underway. The approximately $3.9M construction contract was awarded to Hard Rock Construction, LLC and includes a variety of construction types. View what work is planned as part of the Read Boulevard East Group A here.
Crews are currently moving traffic control elements such as signs and barrels into place and marking out excavation locations in the neighborhood. Excavation work will begin later this month.
The type of work planned varies by block but will include the following:
- Patch Mill / Overlay: Repave the asphalt roadway from curb to curb and repair damaged sidewalks;
- Patch Concrete: Remove damaged portions of the concrete roadway and replace it with new smooth concrete pavement;
- Incidental Road Repairs: Remove damaged portions of the asphalt roadway and replace it with new smooth pavement; and
- Non-Paving Incidentals: Repair damaged sidewalks, driveway aprons and curbs within the public right-of-way.
