Command Construction Industries, LLC crews are wrapping up construction and paving on all major streets that border the Hagan Lafitte Drainage project.
Rain gardens have been planted throughout St. Peter and Toulouse streets to help absorb excessive rainwater. This “green” infrastructure feature is a hallmark trait of the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program’s (HMGP) mandate to create environmentally-friendly ways to reduce the impacts of flooding.
The $7.1M Hagan-Lafitte project is a "gray-green" infrastructure project that features upsized drainage, urban bioswales and a huge water storage facility located underneath Easton Park.
The goals for the project, which is scheduled to be complete this winter, weather permitting, include:
- Increasing drainage to reduce flooding;
- Utilizing green infrastructure to slow, retain, and absorb storm water;
- Beautifying with green areas;
- Replenishing groundwater; and
- Storing rainwater underground.
