This large scale drainage development is a massive “gray green” infrastructure project that is among the first of its kind in New Orleans and will address localized flooding in the Lafitte community. Command Construction crews have installed storage tanks beneath the 100-year field in Easton Park that, when tied into the drainage system, can hold more than 1.2 million gallons of storm water.
The crews, in conjunction with Sewerage and Water Board (SWB), are also continuing to repair and replace drainage lines on N. Salcedo, Toulouse, St. Phillip, St. Peter, N. Broussard and N. Gayoso streets.
Public safety is our priority; the park and adjacent facilities will remain closed until work is complete. The approximately $7.3M project was designed by Stantec and is scheduled to be complete in summer 2020.
The goals for the project include:
- Increasing drainage to reduce flooding;
- Utilizing green infrastructure to slow, retain, and absorb storm water;
- Beautifying with green areas;
- Replenishing groundwater; and
- Storing rainwater underground.
