Fleming Construction is now working to construct “green alleyways” from Press Drive all the way through the subdivision to Congress Street as part of the Pontilly Neighborhood Stormwater Network. Contractors built small aquifers underneath a semipermeable surface that will absorb stormwater and divert it into the city’s drainage system.
Fleming is also connecting and grading stormwater lots throughout the neighborhood that will temporarily store water during a storm event. The lots will be filled with native vegetation to assist with water absorption and surface cooling. The “gray-green” infrastructure project is scheduled to be finished in Fall 2020 and is more than 60 percent complete.
The $15M Pontilly Neighborhood Stormwater Network extends from Stephen Girard Avenue to Southern University at New Orleans. A pre-construction community meeting was held in February 2019 at Mary D. Coghill Elementary School. View the pre-construction public meeting presentation here.
