Sewerage and Water Board representatives met with members of the Carrollton / Riverbend Neighborhood Association this month to update them on the construction of two elevated water towers at the nearby Carrollton Water Purification Plant.
SWB engineers are installing two water tanks at the Carrollton Plant to act as water hammers. A water hammer is a pressure surge or wave caused when water is forced to stop or change direction suddenly.
It commonly occurs when a valve suddenly closes at the end of a pipeline system and sends a pressurized wave through the pipe. That pressurized wave could mitigate future boil water advisories.
Neighbors learned how the elevated storage tanks work, where the tanks will be located, as well as how and what they will look like. Construction is 22 percent complete and scheduled to conclude in October 2018.
