As part of the Hagan-Lafitte Drainage Project, Command Construction will implement a series of detours along the Lafitte Greenway between N. White and N. Rendon streets to connect the new, upsized drainage lines into the St. Louis Canal. This work will begin in early June and conclude in August. Detours are composed of asphalt so that pedestrians and bikers can have easy access to the greenway during the much needed construction project.
The $7.1M Hagan-Lafitte project is a "gray-green" infrastructure project that will feature upsized drainage, urban bioswales and a huge water storage facility located underneath Easton Park. The goals for the project, which is scheduled to be complete by summer 2020 weather permitting, include:
- Increasing drainage to reduce flooding;
- Utilizing green infrastructure to slow, retain, and absorb storm water;
- Beautifying with green areas;
- Replenishing groundwater; and
- Storing rainwater underground.
