Wallace C. Drennan, crews are preparing to begin water and drain line work at the corner of Claiborne Avenue and Reynes Street in early June as part of the Lower Ninth Ward Northwest Group B project. While there continues to be a moratorium on waterline tie-ins in, the work of installing waterlines and drainage will continue. This phase of the project is important to establishing positive drainage in the area. Tie-in operations will resume in projects across the city in June.
A traffic advisory will be issued to alert the public to changes in traffic while this work is being completed. Residents will continue to be notified of work that will impact their access and/or cause disruption to their utilities.
This $5.7M project, designed by Burk–Kleinpeter, Inc., varies block by block but includes the following:
• Installation of new subsurface drainage, sewer, and water lines;
• Removal and replacement of sidewalks and driveways aprons;
• Installation of Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at intersections;
• Manhole adjustments; and
• Repaving of the roadway.
Details of this project were made available at the pre-construction public meeting. View a copy of the public meeting presentation here.
