The City and Sewerage and Water Board began a $2.3M full-depth reconstruction (replacement of the roadway and underground utilities) project on Conti between Bourbon and Royal streets in March.
To date, crews have replaced and upsized the existing drain lines and catch basins in the 700 block of Conti, replaced the existing water lines and repaired and / or replaced the existing sewer lines. Entergy Gas and Entergy Electric have replaced the existing low pressure gas lines with high pressure gas lines and replaced and / or repaired the existing underground electrical duct banks. Crews recently completed pouring the concrete roadway and are in the process of installing the sidewalks. The fence around the 700 block will was removed last month so that pedestrian traffic continue in the roadway while the contractor replaces the sidewalks and adds Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant curb ramps at intersections. All work is anticipated to be complete in early December.
The 700 block of Conti Street project, which was designed by Mott McDonald, LLC is anticipated to run through early November 2021. Project partners include Entergy Electric, Entergy Gas, Cox Communications and AT&T.
The 600 block of Conti Street between Royal and Chartres Street was originally included as part of this project; however, it has been removed and will be bid out through a separate project at a later time. Entergy Gas and Entergy Electric are in the process of completing their utilities upgrades in this block.
