Large stormwater lots are being connected to the larger drainage system by Fleming Construction throughout the newly designated historic Pontchartrain Park neighborhood. Semi-permeable alleyways are also being completed in between each block that will allow water to be absorbed through the pavers into an aggregate base that funnels water into the city’s drainage system and away from homes and property.
This Hazard Mitigation Grant Program project will help protect the historic neighborhood during a catastrophic storm. The entire project is scheduled to be finished in fall 2020 and is currently more than 80 percent complete.
The $15M Pontilly Neighborhood Stormwater Network extends from Stephen Girard Avenue to Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO). A pre-construction community meeting was held in February 2019 at Mary D. Coghill Elementary School. View the pre-construction public meeting presentation here.
