The City, its partners and construction contractors, have completed replacing the underground utilities and repaving the 100 block of Bourbon St. in concrete. The roadway reopened to traffic on Wednesday, Sept. 20.
Crews are currently working in the 200, 300 and 400 blocks of Bourbon St. These blocks are closed to traffic while under construction.
Due to significant rain delays, unforeseen site conditions and budget, the City has determined that this project will be completed in phases.
Phase 1: includes fully reconstructing the 100 – 400 blocks of Bourbon St. and installing safety bollards. It is on schedule to be completed in December 2017 and is being built using the Department of Public Works’ maintenance contract.
Phase 2: includes fully reconstructing the 500 – 800 blocks of Bourbon St. The design is being completed by Mott McDonald, LLC. The contract is scheduled to be put out to public bid through a separate contract with the goal of starting Phase II construction in May 2018. The plan for bollard installation in the 400 - 800 blocks has not yet been finalized; until that time, New Orleans Police Department barricades will be used during major events.
The project is being closely coordinated with a number of stakeholders including the Sewerage and Water Board, Entergy Electric, Entergy Gas and AT&T.
Residents and business owners in the French Quarter can expect to be kept updated on construction status via weekly e-mail updates and also in person bi-weekly meetings the first and third Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. To be added to the project contact list, write roadwork@nola.gov.
