Semi-permeable, green alleyways are being construction by Fleming Construction across 12 blocks of the historic Pontchartrain Park neighborhood. The alleyways stretch from Press Drive, in between each block, past Congress Street.
This “gray-green” feature allows water to be absorbed through the pavers into an aggregate base that funnels water into the city’s drainage system and away from homes and property. This construction will help protect the historic neighborhood in a major storm event. The entire project is scheduled to be finished in fall 2020 and is currently more than 80 percent complete.
The $15M Pontilly Neighborhood Stormwater Network extends from Stephen Girard Avenue to Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO). A pre-construction community meeting was held in February 2019 at Mary D. Coghill Elementary School. View the pre-construction public meeting presentation here.
